Macron Threatens to Shoot Down Drones Infringing on European Skies
Speaking at the European Political Community summit in Copenhagen, Macron emphasized the seriousness of the threat: "It's very important to have a clear message: Drones which would violate our territories, are just taking a big risk. They can be destroyed."
He reaffirmed France’s commitment to safeguarding territorial sovereignty. "We are ready and we are in the position to preserve our air and our territorial integrity. We are ready on the Eastern Flank of NATO, and we are ready at the same time and on top of that, and without reducing this commitment to provide security guarantees for Ukraine," Macron added.
In an earlier interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung on Wednesday, Macron underscored a hardline stance against potential Russian incursions. "In line with the doctrine of strategic ambiguity, I can tell you that nothing is off the table," he said regarding the possibility of Russian fighter jets crossing European airspace.
The warnings come amid a surge in reported airspace violations and drone disruptions across several EU countries, including Poland, Romania, Latvia, Estonia, Norway, and Denmark, intensifying regional security concerns.
